MicroScribe Systems: Solutions for Inspection,
Reverse-engineering, and 3D Digitizing
The
Fastest Way to Create in 3D
MicroScribe® articulated-arm digitizers and portable CMMs
(Coordinate Measuring Machines), along
with the industry's leading software packages, let you easily,
quickly, and affordably construct detailed computer models, perform
accurate part inspections, and complete reverse engineering
projects.
MicroScribe provides a fast, reliable, and easy-to-use method for creating
accurate 3D computer models. Just trace over the contours of a physical
object and build complex 3D data sets in a matter of minutes. MicroScribe
works with physical objects of any shape, size, and material. A variety of
software packages provide the solutions you need to get up and running in no
time.
Applications
Reverse engineering – to get data from existing parts in
cases where the specifications no longer exist or are unavailable
Part inspection – determine if a part meets design intent
Rapid prototyping –to capture data quickly from a designer's
model during the product development cycle
Character creation from physical sculptures
Mold making – for capturing data from a pre-existing part to
prepare a new mold for manufacturing
Models for use in games, movies, broadcast, Web sites and
CD-ROMs
RSI´s new MicroScan
laser-based sensor head easily attaches to the digitizer´s
touch probe (6DOF version). For the first time now users who are
looking for a powerful but cost-effective 3D scanning solution
are provided with a real alternative to existing products which
normally require considerably higher budgets.
Overview
The
award-winning MicroScribe features Immersion's mechanical tracking
technology and a unique, attractive mechanical arm that's compact
and easy to use. Constructed from the highest quality components
like precise aluminum housings, lightweight graphite links and
state-of-the-art electronics, MicroScribe provides years of
trouble-free digitizing. The counterbalanced mechanical arm is
equipped with precision bearings for smooth, effortless
manipulation. Each joint uses digital optical sensors, which are
immune from any environmental noise and interference. It all makes
for a versatile system that can work in almost any environment and
be used with objects of any material. With accuracy of up to
0.009" and sampling speeds of up to 1000 Hz, MicroScribe G2 is
truly the ultimate 3D digitizing system.

Software
Support
To take advantage of MicroScribe, you can either use a dedicated
digitizing software application or use one of many software drivers
that link MicroScribe to existing software applications. Each of
these options allows you to create complex 3D models using points,
lines, polygons, splines, NURBS or other standard geometric
entities. You can even use MicroScribe as a 3D mouse to control view
locations, set light source locations and even define animation
trajectories in real-time.
