When looking at pixels across the range of a camera, the pixels tend to be more elliptical at the outside edges of the lens and more round in the middle of the lens. This anomaly is known as a spherical lens error and can introduce inaccuracies in the scanning system that can vary quite substantially between different points along the scan line.

GIS professionals and other specialized vertical markets involved in Quality Assurance and Verification require a very high grade of precision stability in the scanned image with a well-defined maximum deviation of 0.1% or less. Most scanner manufactures typically state a +-0.1% accuracy between the two end-points of the scan line.

Contex however, has taken scanning precision to new levels by developing patented technology.

Accuracy Lens Enhancement (ALE)
Accuracy Lens Enhancement (ALE) is an electronic correction of spherical errors in CCD based camera- scanning systems.
Accuracy Lens Enhancement Technology (ALE) electronically maintains precision across any two points of the scan line thus exceeding even the most rigid requirements in the industry today.
Contex is the only scanner manufacturer to offer Accuracy Lens Enhancement (ALE) technology for their entire range of scanners. Contex is committed to developing only the highest levels of quality, accuracy and reliability.

How can I get it?
New customers will automatically get the enhanced version when buying a new Contex scanner and existing customers owning a Chameleon, Cougar, Chroma Tx, or Crystal Tx can install the enhancement feature by simply downloading firmware version 28, higher into their scanner and using Scanner Maintenance version 1.6.1, or higher.

ATAC (Automatic Thickness Adjustment Control)

Contex scanners can scan up to 0.6" (15 mm) thick originals such as posters mounted on foam boards, gator boards, and much more. Most Contex scanner models support ATAC, a technology developed to make large and bulky documents easier to handle .

Inserting and scanning thick originals requires adjustment of the guide plate’s height so it accommodates the thick original with the correct pressure and grip for a straight scan path. With most scanners, this means measuring the thickness of the original and then setting the guide plate height on each side of the scanner.

With ATAC technology, adjusting the height of the guide plate is easy and precise. Using the scanner panel, you first raise the guide plate until the original can be inserted without friction - and then lower the guide plate until it stops on its own. Sensors in the scanner monitor the pressure on the original’s surface and position the guide plate at the optimal level.

With ATAC technology, you always get a perfect, even grip on all originals. ATAC technology is also a time saver for scanning jobs that involve many originals of variable thickness.

Thick Media Support Table
The optional Support Table helps protect your original when scanning stiff media. The table stands at the exact level of your scanner's exit slot and is constructed to let the original glide easily during scanning. Care for your original - The Contex All-Wheel-Drive with contour adjustment and precision rollers ensures a perfectly straight scanning path without using unnecessary force so you avoid both image distortion and damage to your customer's fragile originals.
